We're heading back to Renfrow Farms this September for an evening of outdoor reading under the autumn sky! Come ready to relax, unwind, and breathe in the crisp autumn air in the heart of Matthews. Our friends at Renfrow are graciously allowing us to enjoy their beautiful 9 acres before the days grow cooler and shorter. It's the perfect spot to spread out, settle in with your current read, and savor the simple joys of the season.

Deathriser of Darkwood: From the Ashes
After botching a resurrection spell, the kingdom's greatest wizard hitches a ride in Tera's head.
Tera never thought paying attention in her deathriser classes was a big deal. After flunking her midterms, her mom finally put her foot down and grounds Tera. That doesn't stop her from sneaking out to Summercloud Fair one night with her friends.
In a rush to beat her parents home the night of the fair, Tera witnesses the incineration of the kingdom's greatest wizard. Thinking she's about to become a hero, she attempts a basic resurrection spell from class, completely forgetting one of the most important rules—there needs to be a body.
After Aeridonis's consciousness moves into Tera's head, she learns about the true evil behind his death and realizes the new roommate in her mind is the least of her problems.
Shaye Madison is a Charlotte native and currently earning her MA in Creative Writing. When she isn't lurking around book stores and drinking iced chais, she's conjuring up gothic fantasy worlds she (sometimes) wished she lived in. She lives with her partner and their cat, Phoebe.
Red Masquerade
It's the 1920s, and money, liquor, and lust are flowing freely in the great city of New York, where dreams are made—and destroyed.
Helena Quintrell isn't the only one in the city with a dark past she'd rather forget. Born into a newly wealthy family, she spends her nights dancing and drinking with her friends, much to the disapproval of her mother, who wants to see her settle down as a "proper woman" would. When her brother Lucas comes home to find her a husband, her past threatens to break or strengthen her against his iron will and menace.
Until she runs into the only man she'd ever truly loved—who is supposed to be dead.
Vince Thornton is not the man he used to be. He's extremely rich and throws notoriously debauched parties every night, parties where everyone who's anyone attends. Helena falls into his world of night, her eyes opened to the possibilities of luxury and immortality, where blood is the only cost of freedom.
But Lucas doesn't want to let her go, and the game just gets deadlier the more she falls into Vince's den of monsters.
Red Masquerade is a dark and gothic Great Gatsby-inspired vampire romance. Please check the author's website for content warnings.
How Silent Book Club Works
Silent Book Club is called that because it is an opportunity to enjoy quietly reading a book in a location different from your home, where no discussion is required. Some of the locations we visit might have background noise and conversations, but you do not have to participate in any conversations during your time with us. Silent Book Club is BYOBook so you can show up with any book (physical or digital). There are no assigned readings or discussions, just uninterrupted time to immerse ourselves in the pages of our favorite books.
Event Schedule
6:00-6:30 PM: Arrival, meet the authors, find a place to read
