FREE COMMUNITY EVENT
Join Silent Book Club Matthews for a truly unique experience, an evening of reading and community inside one of Downtown Matthews' most historic (and haunted) homes.
The Matthews Heritage Museum, located in the 1879 Massey-Clark House, has been investigated twice by the Carolina Association of Paranormal Studies, which documented evidence of paranormal activity inside the house. Bob even greets "Susie" and "Lucy," the friendly resident spirits, each day when he opens the Museum.
Whether you bring your favorite ghost stories or just your current read, settle in with us for a night where history, literature, and the supernatural meet.
What to Know Before You Go:
Various seating options are available, however, if you have a portable chair you prefer, feel free to bring it
Free parking is available behind the Museum or along Trade St
How Silent Book Club Works
Silent Book Club is called that because it is an opportunity to enjoy quietly reading a book in a location different from your home, where no discussion is required. Some of the locations we visit might have background noise and conversations, but you do not have to participate in any conversations during your time with us. Silent Book Club is BYOBook so you can show up with any book (physical or digital). There are no assigned readings or discussions, just uninterrupted time to immerse ourselves in the pages of our favorite books.
Event Schedule
6:00-6:30 PM: Arrival, find a cozy place to read
6:30-7:30 PM: Quiet reading hour
7:30-8:00 PM: Continue reading, talk with others
Feel free to come and go as you please, staying for as little or as long as you like.
If you plan to join us, please RSVP to our Facebook Event to help us prepare.
