We're excited to gather this month at The Hangar—a new community spot in Downtown Matthews! There's patio seating available, but feel free to bring your own comfy chair and settle in for a relaxing evening of reading under the sky. It's the perfect spot to unwind with fellow book lovers.
This Month at SBC Matthews: Two Guest Authors!
Cheryl is a sports romance author from Charlotte, NC. She enjoys attending hockey games, listening to Taylor Swift, and just began her sourdough journey. She writes sports romances with a little heat and a lot of heart. She has four books in The Decker Connection, a series of interconnected standalones featuring the Decker siblings and their friends.
Trouble at First
All Ashleigh Decker wants this summer is to be the social media intern for the Savannah Pajamas. Is that too much to ask? She’s off to a great start until she meets a player who is nothing but trouble.
This summer league is the perfect opportunity for Cole Davidson to impress the MLB scouts. His dream to play first base for the Carolina Reapers is within his grasp. An added bonus? A beautiful intern who steals his heart.
The only problem? She’s hiding her identity. Her father is the owner of the Reapers, and her overprotective older brother is the General Manager. Can Ashleigh keep her secret and the guy without jeopardizing his career?
Trouble at First is book one in The Decker Connection, a series filled with lovable characters and lots of heat, I mean, heart.
Kelsey Painter is a romance reader, writer, and overall enthusiast. She loves all things romance—from the tropes to the happily ever afters. Her stories, like her favorite ones to read, always have a good bit of spice in them. Check out her books page to see more about them!
Outside of reading and writing, Kelsey enjoys ballroom dancing, watching soccer (or football, depending on where you're from), and spending time with her family. She lives in Charlotte, NC, where she was raised since she was just four days old.
While You're Dancing
Phoebe Barlowe needs a comeback.
After a traumatic event puts her stand-up comedy tour on hiatus, she’s out of material and out of options. Her agent pitches something different—Ballroom for Better, a charity ballroom dancing competition show. Phoebe can earn money for others while also earning back the public’s favor. Reluctant but desperate, she agrees. Now all she has to do is survive her snobby dance partner.
When Cyrus Hayes agrees to dance on Ballroom for Better, he thinks his only problem will be that one of the judges is his runaway bride. But when he meets his celebrity partner, he realizes he is in for more than he bargained for. Phoebe Barlowe is crass, sloppy, and worst of all—tardy. He isn’t sure he can stand this stand-up comic.
Despite their animosity, learning to dance gives Phoebe something she thought she lost forever. And dancing with Phoebe gives Cyrus the spark he was certain his ex had taken. Long hours at the dance studio lead to longer conversations outside of it. Before they know it, staying in the competition means more to them than they ever thought it would.
Everything changes when their hearts are at stake.
How Silent Book Club Works
Silent Book Club is called that because it is an opportunity to enjoy quietly reading a book in a location different from your home, where no discussion is required. Some of the locations we visit might have background noise and conversations, but you do not have to participate in any conversations during your time with us. Silent Book Club is BYOBook so you can show up with any book (physical or digital). There are no assigned readings or discussions, just uninterrupted time to immerse ourselves in the pages of our favorite books.
Event Schedule
6:00-6:30 PM: Arrival, meet the authors, find a place to read
